This FITCAMX replaces the standard Kia Niro EX under mirror cover that houses the lane keep assist camera. It just add an additional camera so it can take video. Crystal clear image and you can turn on sound if you wanted to have sound to the video. I personally think it's better without it.
I am pretty good with tech, so I was able to merge the separate 1 minute individual video clips together so it is a start to finish video show here. I just took a really short trip to my local Subway sandwich shop for a demo of what this product provides. I did add in the polarizing lens to keep the Arizona sun glare to a minimum. I had a hat on the dash and it shows up on the video, so I no longer have anything on the dash to diminish from the video this product is capturing.
You do need to make sure you are getting the correct product for you actual vehicle. They ask for pictures so they can help make sure you are ordering the correct product you vehicle will need. This was what works on a 2023 Kia Niro EX ( my vehicle ). I watch the video instruction that show step by step what you need to do.
I did contact the company and verified what electrical connection I should use, as there were two different options for my vehicle. I took a phot of the plug and they made sure I was plugging it into the source and the connector would fit and work properly.
If you are not comfortable in doing such a project, find a dash cam installer and let them do it for you. I build my own gaming computers, so this project is in my wheelhouse. Not everyone will be comfortable in messing with a vehicles electronic components so do let a professional install it if you are unsure of your own abilities in doing such a thing.
You can unplug the SD card and put it into an adapter to directly transfer these video files to a computer, but the app works just fine to accomplish the same task, and no dealing with removing and installing that SD card when using the app to download the video you want to directly to your phone. You can then transfer those video files to your computer.
There are instructions and videos on how to do that if you need them. You can also contact the customer support and they will advise you as well. They responded to all of my questions I had in a timely manner. Very professional company to deal with.
A friend of mine was having a professional dash cam installer put a FITCAMX product into her vehicle, so I inquired and that installer sent me a link to this product as what he would suggest I used for my vehicle. I almost let him do it, but again I am handy in these type of projects so I did it myself to save in the labor costs.
I am very happy with this product and it works better that I expected it to for the cost. I did not need a rear camera option, but there is one available. There was a lot more labor involved in adding that rear camera so I chose not to do it myself.
I am only concerned in what is going on in front of my vehicle in case of an accident. If you have a professional do your installation, you may want the rear view camera added on. That is a personal choice and I felt fine in not having that myself.
The video is pretty short and it gives you a real sense of what this product will do in real world use. It can be the difference between you being deemed "at fault" or not as it shows in real time what caused any front of your vehicle accident. Very important if professional scammers target you and back into your vehicle in order to sue you for money damages / medical bills and such.
In todays world of poor drivers and scammer, I am very happy I now have this system that will help safeguard me in the event of an accident that will show what really happened. If you do not have one of these, you are at the mercy of witnesses ( if there even are any ).
I drove a city bus for 23+ years and we have camera systems that show all around the bus in case of an accident. The video gets pulled and reviewed and sent to local law enforcement so the one who should be "at fault" is the one that actually is. This is a must have in todays society in my opinion.
I hope this may help all that are considering getting a FITCAMX for there own vehicle.
